New Years Tech Skills Activities for All Grades

New Years Technology Resolutions

Have your students make new years resolutions for things they would like to improve upon in technology class this year. You can use a template like this New Years Memories and Resolutions eBook, do a more in-depth Goal-Setting Worksheet or create these Painted Jars. Any of these projects can easily be completed digitally with a tweak or two (such as by layering images and text boxes in a program like Google Slides).

My New Years Activities

I put together a couple of activities that have something for everyone, K-5. These include:

  • Digital Sheets/Excel Mystery Pictures
    • There are 3 levels of challenge in these spreadsheet mystery pictures so you can use them with multiple grade levels.
      • Level 1 has a labeled template. Every cell from A1-J10 is labeled to make it as simple as possible for students. Great for grades 1-2.
      • Level 2 has a template but it isn’t filled in with the cell names, which requires students to develop an understanding of how charts cells are named. Great for grades 2-3.
      • Level 3 requires students to open a blank workbook in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, make the cells A1-J10 square, and then follow the directions to fill in the picture. Great for grades 4 and up.
  • Digital Hundreds Chart Mystery Pictures
    • Students K-2 are going to love discovering what New Years themed design is hidden in the hundreds chart mystery picture and you’ll love that they are practicing so many different skills. While students may be familiar with paper and pencil hundreds charts, it takes it to a whole new level to do it digitally. Students will really master the toolbar in whatever program you use. The activity has them filling 100 cells in a table per design, making it a mastery activity.
  • CVC Words New Year Theme Digital Secret Picture Tile Puzzles
    • Digital Secret Picture Tile Puzzles are great mouse or trackpad practice as well as being an opportunity to practice navigating a Google Slides or PowerPoint file. This set has 10 slides of CVC word building and typing practice. There is a New Year’s theme on the secret pictures to make it engaging.

If you would like students to work on technology skills while doing fun New Years themed activities in the computer lab, these are for you!
