Each design has a case sensitive directions page. This activity is designed to be an advanced set including the whole keyboard, upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special keys. Students will learn the purpose of the shift key to produce the special characters. Plan to demonstrate the shift keys skill if students don’t have prior experience.
Ways to add challenge:
•Have students highlight the text with the color instead of changing the font color.
•Have students add a line at the end that says what the shape is.
•Have students add a clip art image that represents the design.
•Have students type a reflection about how the activity went and what they might do differently next time.
Ways to provide supports (make it easier):
•Provide students with a second sheet of paper or a flat edge like a ruler so that they can be looking at one line at a time.
•Dictate the directions one line at a time to students.
•Demonstrate each line as you go using a projector or screensharing software.
Designs Included:
- Campfire
- Guitar
- Robot
- Ice Cream Cone
- Trophy and Medal
- Computer

All students are able to complete the activity. This is a fun and engaging way to review technology skills. It was easy to assess and assist the students who needed to know how to utilize the center tab. Life skills are being taught.

My students love to figure out what the mystery shape will be. These lessons give us a break from the normal keyboarding website that we always use.

Great for keyboarding & formatting skills without students really realizing that they are practicing their skills. Love watching them try to figure out the pictures.

My students love doing these! It’s like going on a mystery hunt because they have no idea what they are creating till the end.

These are easily one of my favorite typing activities. I always print off different classes finished design and put them in my window until the next one we do and the kids just love it. Plus, they’re always engaged in typing properly when doing these activities. They’re excited for the final design!
