Description

This winter will be so fun with the Snow Globe digital glyph and digital animation projects in one bundle! You can use both projects with the same students or have students do the digital glyph the first year and then the digital animation the next year. Ideal for computer lab teachers or upper elementary classroom teachers.
This is a bundle of:

Snow Globe Digital Glyph:
Teacher Prep:
  1.  Plan how students will save their final Scene. I used the snipping tool that comes with a window’s device, but your setup may be different. You will need to show students what you want them to do.
  2.  Plan how you want to share the file with your students. I’m providing the Google Slides file link but you can also use this as a PowerPoint file. Using Google Classroom makes it really easy, but any learning management system can be used to send the file to students.

Skills Addressed:
  • Navigating to the file
  • Navigating between slides in a Google Slides or PowerPoint file
  • Copy and paste pieces between slides
  • Resize pieces
  • Layer pieces
  • Group pieces
  • Save finished avatar as an image file

STANDARDS ADDRESSED
Strand: Innovative Designer
Standard: 4.b. select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.
I Can Statements:
  • I can use keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste
  • I can resize, arrange, and layer pieces in a presentation program
  • I can create visual representations of the solution to a problem
  • I can stick with a problem until it is solved
  • I can use the materials around me to help me solve a problem
  • I can create an original work using a digital tool

Snow Globe Digital Animation:
  • Stop Motion is typically done with physical objects and a camera. This project is a little bit different.
  • Instead of getting out all of those materials, we are going to do it digitally.
  • Using Google Slides, students will animate a story across multiple slides. The 3 prompts are editable so it can be made more (or less) complicated to meet your needs.
  • Students can do this with a single device or in groups across 3-5 devices.
  • The graphics are provided for students, and they can add their own if needed.
  • This project includes an instructional video. The video link goes to my Vimeo account. You can show students the video from there or you can download the video and use it as part of your assignment in your LMS.

ISTE Standards:
  • Innovative Designer: 4d – Students exhibit a tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with open-ended problems.
  • Creative Communicator: 6b – Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations. 6d – Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.
  • Global Collaborator: 7c – Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal. (if done in pairs or small groups)

What teachers said on TPT

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 31 teachers on Teachers Pay Teachers.

“My students enjoyed doing this activity. I've used the Glyph snow globe project so far and look forward to using the other resource as well. The Glyph was a good resource to review copy and paste, resizing objects, and teaching kids how to order things so that images are in front of other images. Thanks for a fun resource!”

— Jennifer M., TPT review

“This was so fun! My students absolutely loved the challenge of putting together a moving snow globe. The video tutorial made it easy for students to be independent with this assignment. Thanks for putting this together!”

— Mary M., TPT review

“My students loved this! We started with the snow globe design to practice layering, and then the older students did the animation. They were super engaged to do the animation, and the instructions were very simple.”

— Jennifer B., TPT review
