Description

Learning keyboarding can be super boring and tedious for students. This set of 4 Fall Themed text formatting activities aims to bring engagement and a sense of purpose to the practice of typing. Students will also (hopefully) have a sense of pride over the final outcome and an understanding of the learning objective.

Each design has 2 sets of directions pages. The first one is lowercase letters and the second one is uppercase letters. This is to give you choice to match your student keyboards. When the students actually type the text, it should all be in lowercase to match the finished examples provided.

Ways to add challenge:

•Have students highlight the text with the color instead of changing the font color.

•Have students add a line at the end that says what the shape is.

•Have students add a clip art image that represents the design.

•Have students type a reflection about how the activity went and what they might do differently next time.

Ways to provide supports (make it easier):

•Provide students with a second sheet of paper or a flat edge like a ruler so that they can be looking at one line at a time.

•Dictate the directions one line at a time to students.

•Demonstrate each line as you go using a projector or screensharing software.

Designs Included:

  • Apple Tree
  • Corn
  • Football
  • Scarecrow

What teachers said on TPT

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 50 teachers on Teachers Pay Teachers.

“Our regular typing lessons on the typing websites were getting stale. Using this resource, the kids can practice the skills they have learned in an engaging manner. There are many simple ways to adapt this to whatever population you are working with! The kids love it and it made them eager to learn new ways to edit their work! Thank you!”

— Raymond M., TPT review

“My 5th graders enjoy this activity. I allow them to work with a partner which helps for this activity. I have some students finish one and asked for more!!! It works on great Google Doc skills! I bought the winter one last year and liked it so much I bought this one! Highly recommend!!”

— brooke G., TPT review

“This is a great project for students to practice their typing skills. They look great in the end and I love watching the students try to figure out what the mystery picture will be. It really makes them practice those typing and formatting skills.”

— Caroline S., TPT review
