DESCRIPTION
3D printing is the process of making three-dimensional objects from a digital file. This assignment is an introduction to 3D printing with TinkerCAD, a free and easy to use web-based tool. It will give your students the skills to design basic 3D objects for printing. If you do not have access to a 3D printer, your students can still design 3D models and save the design as an image file to turn in.

ISTE Standards:
  • Innovative Designer: 4d – Students exhibit a tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with open-ended problems.

The practice task is designed to be a simple activity for students with no prior experience working with a 3D workplane. After completing the practice task, students will be able to place, scale, move, and group shapes while viewing a design from multiple angles.

The challenge cards are designed to allow students to explore the concept of 3D Modeling. Each challenge results in a design that can be printed, however printing is not required if you do not have access to a 3D printer. Students can instead share the design file with you online for your review.
