Description
Challenge your students during STEM or Computer Lab time to complete digital challenges in a digital breakout or escape room that focuses on digital citizenship concepts.
Info for the teacher to consider:
•Students use the file in edit mode the entire time. Zoom in if text is too small. Use all of the digital tools available to them to solve the puzzles.
•Most groups should be able to complete it in 20-30 minutes.
•If this is your first digital breakout, then I recommend solving the puzzles as a whole group activity.
•With this resource you will receive a link to a Google Slides file. From there you can share your copy of the Slides file with your students or download it as a PowerPoint file to share that way.
•Enhance students’ understanding of digital citizenship concepts through interactive and collaborative problem-solving activities.
•Introduce the students to the Digital Citizenship Escape Room activity. Explain that they will solve puzzles related to digital citizenship.
•Assign the Digital Escape Room in your preferred LMS.
•Set a time limit for the challenges, depending on the length of your class time. Display a timer for students to stay on track.
2. Completing the Challenges:
•Allow students to work individually or in small groups to complete the digital escape room. Encourage critical thinking and collaboration.
•Circulate among the breakout rooms to offer guidance and support if needed.
3. Reflection & Conclusion
•Review the answers and solutions for each challenge. Encourage students to explain their thought processes for solving the puzzles.
•Discuss the importance of each concept related to digital citizenship covered in the challenges.
•Ask students to share their key takeaways about digital citizenship and how they can apply these lessons to their online activities.
Optional Additional STEM Challenge:
Have students create a poster using an online tool about your personal digital footprint or create a poster illustrating the importance of online privacy.
