Description

This complete unit has 10 reading passages, vocab cards, a multiple choice assessment, and 40 digital activity slides for internet safety and digital citizenship topics. It is ideal for computer lab teachers to use during tech class as you can choose which topics to complete with each grade level.

CONTENTS:

  • Reading Passages – either project onto a screen for the class to see or print them and hand them out. There is one reading passage per topic.
  • Vocabulary Cards – use to help students develop a broader understanding of the topics.
  • Printable Assessment – use as a pre and post assessment of student understanding
  • Link to Digital Activities
  • Link to Answer Key
  • How to Use – ideas for teacher
  • Standards Addressed

If you own the Digital Breakout Series for Internet Safety Topics, the reading passages and digital activities are the same, but in a different format. I had a request to turn the content into a unit.

Internet Safety Topics Included:

  • Screentime
  • Passwords
  • Online Friends
  • Group Chats
  • Permission
  • Private and Personal Info
  • Digital Footprint
  • Fake News
  • Cyberbullying
  • Copyright

Each session, either project or hand out the reading passage and read it together as a group. Then, use the vocab cards to discuss the topic of the day. Once students have a basic understanding of the topic, have them complete the related 4 digital activity slides. Students use the reading passages, vocab, other slides, and background knowledge to complete the activities. The activities are not “right there” type practice. They are a continuation of the learning and may require brief research and problem solving.

Once you’ve completed all 10 topics, have students take the assessment. You can also use the assessment as a pre-test so that you can track progress.

This resource is fantastic. I plan on using it over the course of the month. The reading passages are relevant and encourage great conversations. The activities are super engaging and my students can’t wait for the next one!

  2. Buyer (verified owner)

This is a great resource. It ended up not being what I was looking for, but that was my fault. This is still a GREAT resource, with WONDERFUL resources for in the classroom.

  3. Tyisha C. (verified owner)

This resource was great to use with kids when we transitioned to online learning to help reinforce key concepts from our digital citizenship unit at the beginning of the year. If you have to virtual lessons with students this a great resource as you can share a story about the concept being reviewed and then allow students to do the Google Slides.

  4. Buyer (verified owner)

This unit was a life saver for me during he pandemic and having to work on these critical skills!
