Alignment with the iTECH Model

  1. Inspire: Introduce Tellagami by showing examples of engaging Gamis created by other students or educators. Discuss the power of storytelling and digital narratives to inspire students to creatively express their ideas and thoughts.
  2. Try: Guide students through the basics of using Tellagami, including setting up scenes, choosing characters, and typing dialogue. Let students experiment with creating short, simple Gamis based on prompts or their own ideas.
  3. Expand: Introduce more complex storytelling techniques, such as building a narrative arc or developing characters. Encourage students to use descriptive writing and incorporate their own photos or drawings to personalize their Gamis.
  4. Create: Assign a project where students use Tellagami to create a more detailed story or presentation. This could be based on a curriculum topic, a creative writing prompt, or a descriptive writing exercise. Encourage students to think critically about the story they want to tell and how best to use the app’s features to convey it.
  5. Huddle: Organize a class session where students present their Gamis to the class. Use this as an opportunity for peer feedback, reflection, and discussion on storytelling techniques and digital expression.

Here are some ideas of how you can use it with your elementary students in fun ways:

Start a scene

You can give the kids a situation to write a scene, which they will type for the character and make a story out of it.

What can happen next

You can also question the kids by showing them the background and make them draw different imaginations for the background. Once they are done with their imagination, now engage the kids in writing up a story on the background they have imagined.

Descriptive Writing

Give the kids some images with the character and ask them to write some descriptive writing regarding the character in the application and its background. You can also add up your own photos or the kid’s photos and ask them to gather their thoughts and thinking and ask them to write the stories that they have imagined.

Tips for Effective Implementation

  1. Encourage Creativity: Motivate students to be creative in their use of Tellagami, experimenting with different characters, backgrounds, and story ideas.
  2. Focus on Writing Skills: Use Tellagami as a tool to enhance writing skills, emphasizing narrative structure, descriptive language, and character development.
  3. Integrate Curriculum: Tie Tellagami projects to current curriculum topics, making storytelling relevant to what students are learning in other subjects.

Role of Educators

Educators can guide students in using Tellagami as a storytelling tool, helping them to translate their ideas and narratives into digital format. Support students in developing their writing and narrative skills and provide feedback on their storytelling techniques.

Tellagami offers a unique and engaging platform for students to develop their storytelling and writing skills. By integrating Tellagami with the iTECH Model, educators can encourage creative expression, digital literacy, and a deeper engagement with narrative writing. Whether for creative storytelling, descriptive writing, or curriculum-based projects, Tellagami can be a valuable addition to the educational technology toolkit.
